With the inception of the college, the department came into being in 1984. Sophisticated laboratories with the latest equipment are the hallmark of the department. The department provides students with a fundamental knowledge and understanding of how machinery, vehicles, electric motors, engines, and other heavy equipment operate. A student pursuing a diploma in mechanical engineering will acquire knowledge of the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.

The CAD lab with advanced licenced software, the CAM lab with CNC milling, and the turning centres are the highlights of the department.
